Principal's Message
Greetings Marina Del Rey Middle School Community,
Welcome back to another exciting school year at Marina Del Rey Middle School! I am honored and delighted to begin my second year as principal and to continue serving this incredible school community. Education has been my lifelong calling, and for more than 25 years, I have served in a variety of roles that have shaped my perspective and strengthened my commitment to student success. Each position has provided me with invaluable experiences and insights into the diverse needs of students and the importance of collaboration in achieving excellence.
As I reflect on my first year at Marina Del Rey Middle School, I am filled with pride and gratitude for all that we accomplished together. This past year, we celebrated numerous accomplishments, including increases in student achievement, improved attendance rates, greater participation in the School Experience Survey, and expanded partnerships that enriched opportunities for our students both inside and outside the classroom. These successes are a direct reflection of the collective effort and unwavering support of our entire school community.
As proud as we are of our achievements, we are even more excited about what lies ahead. This year marks the beginning of several transformative initiatives that will further elevate the educational experience for our students. We are thrilled to launch our new Dual Language Pathway, providing students with opportunities to develop bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural proficiency. We will also begin implementing our Math Pathway, ensuring that students have access to rigorous and accelerated learning opportunities that support long-term academic success.
Additionally, Marina Del Rey Middle School is embarking on an exciting journey toward becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. As an IB Candidate School, we will continue to develop a globally minded learning environment that promotes inquiry, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and leadership skills that prepare students for success in an ever-changing world.
We are also excited to unveil a new dedicated sixth-grade area on campus this fall. This intentional space has been designed to support our incoming students as they transition to middle school by fostering a stronger sense of belonging and community during this important stage of their educational journey.
To our families and community, thank you for your continued partnership and trust. Together, we have built a strong foundation, and together, we will continue to achieve great things. I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to another exceptional year of learning, growth, and success. Let us keep our students at the center of every decision we make and ensure that Marina Del Rey Middle School continues to be a place where every child feels supported, inspired, and prepared for success.
Mrs. Annette Harrison-Owens,
Principal, Marina Del Rey Middle School
