Community School Initiative
As a Community School, Marina del Rey Middle School emphasizes collaboration with families, local organizations, and residents to support student learning and development. Unlike a “traditional school”, community schools integrate academic instruction with a range of services, such as health care, after-school programs, and family support, to address the holistic needs of students. We adhere to four pillars to steer this mission: Integrated Student Supports, Collaborative Leadership and Practices, Expanded and Enhanced Learning Opportunities, and Active Family and Community Engagement.
Data is collected through various methods that constitute the Assets and Needs Assessment (ANA). What distinguishes Community Schools from "traditional schools" is the significant role that the ANA process plays in shaping budget development and resource allocation. At its core, "social justice" involves the fair and equitable distribution of resources within the community. The ANA process is the most effective way to achieve a budget that reflects these principles of social justice.
This approach builds a strong sense of community and guarantees that educational opportunities are available to every student, thereby improving their overall well-being and academic achievement.
